Key facts about the Bosch Rotak 43 Ergoflex mower

On this site I’m going to give you information about the Bosch Rotak 43 Ergoflex Lawnmower, sometimes sold as the Rotak 430 Ergoflex Lawnmower, as shown in the photos of the box you will find on this site. Although these are different model numbers they are actually the same machine. The numbers refer to the cutting width, 43 being 43 cm and 430 being 430 mm.

I’m going to give you an illustrated guide of how to put the Bosch Rotak 43 Ergoflex mower together, and some of my opinions on how well it does its job of mowing lawns.

The basics

This is a rotary mower with a 43 cm (17 inch) cut. It has a plastic body which means it is relatively light to manoeuvre, and a steel cutting blade ensuring longevity and a keen cutting edge. The mower has a plastic roller at the back, so produces the striped effect beloved of keen gardeners.

The ‘Ergoflex’ in the product’s name refers to the design of the handle, which is intended to make the mower much more comfortable to use than a traditional handle. Some may believe that this is just a gimmick, but I was quickly won over in use, it really does make a difference.

Another innovation is the inclusion of what Bosch call ‘combs’ at the sides of the mower. These are designed to direct grass in towards the cutting blade, with the particular intention of making this mower more effective than usual at cutting close to the edge of walls, for example. This is another successful feature in my opinion, although I do feel some adverts I have seen promoting this aspect of the mower go a little too far.

Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase of this mower, and feel able to recommend it to others. Please look at the other pages on the site for a guide to assembling the mower and a review of how it cuts.
